ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Botany, St. Bede’s College Shimla was established in 1975 with undergraduate courses with a vision for excellence in teaching in plant science and since then playing its vital role in making students familiar with plants, their roles for livings and their importance. The Department organizes various field activities, visits to various educational and research institutions with an aim to inculcate the interest of the students in the subject. Botany is basic and important science as it offers a range of career options for new generation in Govt. as well as in private sectors like Dept. of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry, nurseries and biological supply houses, crop improvement, environment monitoring, biotechnology firms, drug, food, and chemical companies, and research/teaching jobs.
The Department started M.Sc. Botany course w.e.f. July, 2017 after the approval from Directorate of Higher Education, H.P. Government and from H.P.U. Shimla. Twenty seats were approved.
VISION
To conduct innovative teaching, student central higher education and outreach on the patterns and processes of life with a focus on plants.
To explore and not to exploit the plant world.
MISSION
To promote creative, intellectual enquiry with positive relationship among students that enable predictive understanding of plants and their environment.
